Dear all,

Some of you will have noticed (and perhaps be relieved by) a radio silence from me of late in regard to Cobra matters; I've been rather busy in the background though...

I've recently hit my magic half century and following much consideration have take the decision to jump off the corporate ladder in order to devote the next chapter of my life to doing what I truly love, which is surrounding myself with old cars.  With that in mind, I am joining RH Classics in a consultancy role, helping them establish and grow their sales operation in the coming months.

And here comes the bombshell; I am giving serious consideration to parting with my beloved 427 Street Cobra as I will have to come back into the real world in terms of my toys.  The Porsche is due to make its way North in August and perhaps the Cobra too.  In truth, I'm not quite ready to part with it, but I'm placing it here, amongst friends in the first instance to see what interest it garners.  In terms of asking price - you'll need talk to me privately, but be warned, it's a six figure car...

Exciting times ahead...

Lee

Hi Lee,

Great to hear you are planning on doing something you love, it is a rare opportunity and one not to be missed.

Hope you change your mind on the car but all the best and hope we see you soon, Silverstone perhaps?

Don't do it, Lee.

We know where you live...

...and I can tell you from personal experience that consigning a higher-end car to sale and changing your mind is not a cheap exercise.

Thank you for your kind (and threatening) words chaps.

It's by no means a definite outcome; at this stage, I'm just testing the waters here.  The car has been (and remains) a labour of love, so I'd only consider letting it go if it were financially and emotionally viable.

I'm very, very aware that Cobra's are very difficult cars to replace and I've been here once before, though in truth, this time, it isn't just about chopping in the Cobra just because I'd like something else - there are more valid reasons. Mind you, who doesn't like to go virtual car shopping to see what their £100k or so will buy them?

If I do proceed down the route of selling the car,  it won't need to be consigned, given my new career direction, but let's see what transpires.  There does remain a little 'sorting' to be done over the summer with the gearbox and the diff either way, so I'll keep you posted on progress.

What I didn't want to do was for one of you to see the car pop up unexpectedly, without prior warning, as I've already dropped a few unexpected bombshells this year...

Will we see you at Silverstone this weekend Lee?  And sorry to be selfish, but what will happen to our mag do you think!

Can you not offer your 427 for sale through RH Classics?

Colin

We’ve got some ideas regarding the magazine, regardless of what Lee does with his car, so we’ll keep member posted in that regard.

Needless to say, producing a quality magazine is extremely challenging, especially with a small membership “club” like ours and raises questions of viability when relatively few people will ultimately  get to read it.
